The Urban Design Research Institute and Sir JJ College of Architecture are pleased to invite you to the Sandhya Savant Memorial Lecture 2019 on Tuesday 5th March 2019 at 2.30 pm at the Sir JJ College of Architecture. The speaker for this year is Prof. Narayani Gupta, noted urban historian and founder member of the Conservation Society of Delhi; who will speak on ‘Architecture Becomes Archaeology’.

Seminar on Sanitation as Infrastructure
The ‘Sanitation as Infrastructure’, seminar organised by Urban Design Research Institute in collaboration with the Academy of Architecture, Rachana Sansad on 14th February 2019 hosted a range of speakers who have been closely working in the field of sanitation at the grassroots level. A plethora of topics associated to sanitation, public health and livelihoods were discussed through interactive sessions with each speaker. ‘How do we enable sanitation to be a driver for community development?’  was one of the persistent questions that was opened up for further discourse. The speakers – Rahul Mehrotra, Surekha Ghogale, Prabhat Pani, Kavita Wankhade, Dr Anshuman Karol, Pankaj Joshi, Dr Armida Fernandez, Dr Kamaxi Bhate, Seema Redkar, Kalpit Ashar & Mayuri Sisodia and Dr Deepak Kantawala – spoke from their varied experiences in issues such as health and sanitation, sanitation in informal settlements and slums, sanitation as an opportunity in indigenous communities, women’s safety, health and empowerment associated socio-cultural progress and permanence/temporal nature of toilet infrastructure in the country.
