Mapping SRA Projects in Greater Mumbai

Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) has been conducting research across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in its attempt to make the Region inclusive. In this respect, UDRI has undertaken a research study to understand and evaluate the spread of proposed and existing Slum Rehabilitation Schemes across Greater Mumbai. The data, that is presently available with all 24 ward offices in Greater Mumbai, is being collected by UDRI through RTIs and is in the process of being compiled to map approved SRA projects across Mumbai. UDRI has, since the filing of the RTIs, been called for several hearings and has filed First Appeals to access missing data.

SRA Website Evaluation

UDRI has been analysing the SRA website and it’s portal on its schemes across Greater Mumbai to enable an easy user interface to understand these schemes. Following a detailed analysis, UDRI proposed recommendations to improve the transparency of the website and the portal. On 13th February 2019, UDRI, along with an external expert, presented to the State Information Commissioner (SIC), Government of Maharashtra it’s evaluation and was directed to compile and submit these recommendations. Subsequently, the State Information Commissioner (SIC), Maharashtra issued an order dated 18th February 2019, under the RTI Act Section 19(8), instructing the SRA to upload all documents related to SRA projects on their website and consider the suggestions put forward by UDRI to improve the website and bring greater transparency.
