INTRODUCTION

This publication is an outcome of the seminar/ workshop titled “Conserving an Image Centre – The Fort Precinct, Bombay,” that was held in Bombay October 2 – 3, 1993. The seminar was organised by the Max Mueller Bhavan Bombay and Bombay Conservation Group in cooperation with the Prince of Wales Museum, Indian Heritage Society and Habitat Forum, Berlin.
The purpose of this Workshop was to familiarise the citizens with the glorious architectural history of Bombay and to enable them to participate in the conservation efforts; and it has given an opportunity to architects, town planners, historians, conservationists and interested citizen to interact and to arrive at proper strategies which would result in the conservation of this beautiful part of the city.
