Pankaj Joshi is a conservation architect and presently serves on
the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee, a visiting professor
at the Academy of Architecture and Rizvi College of Architecture,
Mumbai and consultant to the Heritage Conservation Society of the
Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The joint
convener of the Mumbai Study Group, an interdisciplinary forum,
at the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai and a member trustee of SAVE
forum, an environment action group in North Mumbai.
Shirin Bharucha is a lawyer who worked with the Tata Group for
several years. She is involved with a number of Trusts, which work
for the city's urban renewal. She was part of the team, which restored
the Oval Maidan, the Horniman Circle Garden and the Kala Ghoda Art
District (www.kalaghodassociation.org). She is currently the Managing
Trustee at the UDRI.
Rahul Mehrotra studied architecture at the Centre for Environmental
Planning and Technology in Ahmedabad and then obtained a Master
of Architecture in Urban Design degree with the distinction from
Harvard University in 1987. In private practice in Bombay since
1990, his works include a wide range from planning, urban design
and conservation to architecture and interiors. Among other books
written by him, he has also co-authored a book titled Conserving
an Image Centre - The Fort Precinct in Bombay, based on this study
and recommendation the State Government declared the Fort area a
Conservation Precinct in 1995. Mehrotra has taught at the National Singapore University (1998), the University of Michigan (2000-2007), and currently teaches at Massachusetts Institute of Technology..
Anuj Bhagwati is a Director of A.T.E. (www.ateindia.com), a Bombay
based engineering group. The group also runs a small trust focusing
on rural development in Gujarat. Anuj is also involved with a few
NGOs such as UDRI, Kala Ghoda Association (www.kalaghodassociation.org)
and Praja (www.praja.org).
Specialisng in the history of Bombay, Sharada Dwivedi has co-authored
with Rahul Mehrotra several books on the city including Bombay,
the Cities Within, Banganga: Sacred Tank, Fort Walks and A City’s
Legacy: The Indian Navy’s Heritage in Bombay. Among her other
books are Lives of the Indian Princes, The Automobiles of the Maharajas,
and Almond Eyes Lotus Feet. She is active with several conservation
projects and has served as a Member of the Mumbai Heritage Conservation
Committee.
Nayana Kathpalia volunteered with INTACH New Delhi for 8 years
and on relocation to Mumbai in 1995, has been active with NGOs such
as OCRA, OVAL Trust, UDRI and NAGAR, all of who are working for
the civic and urban renewal of Mumbai.
Jamsheed Kanga retired from the IAS after working in various senior
positions with Governments Of Maharashtra and India, including Municipal
Commissioner of Mumbai and Secretary to the Depts of Industry and
Revenue. He chaired the committee, which formulated heritage regulations,
now being adopted through out the country. He has been active in
urban affairs as a founder member of the Bombay First.
Kamu Iyer is an Architect Graduated
in architecture from Sir J. J. School of Art in 1957. He studied
with G. B. Mhatre and worked briefly in his office. In practice
since 1960 with Architects’ Combine, he has built extensively
in Bombay and all over India. He is a visiting lecture in Design
at various schools.
Prasad Shetty graduated as an architect from the University of
Mumbai and has done his Masters in Urban Management from the Institute
for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
He was a fellow at the Kamla Raheja Institute of Architecture, Mumbai
(1998-99) where he was also a core Faculty and Coordinator of the
KRVIA Design Cell (1999–2002). He was also a fellow with the
Sarai, New Media Initiatives, New Delhi (2005). He was an Urban
Managment Consultant to the Town Administration of Mendefera, Eritrea
for preparation of the Comprehensive Plan for the Town.
Rahul Gore Studied architecture at Centre for Environmental Planning
and Technology (CEPT), Ahmedabad and his Masters Program in Urban
Design at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He started
_OPOLIS, a young design practice doing urban design, architectural
and interior design work, along with Sonal Sancheti in the year
2001. He was a part of the award winning Indian team that won acclaim
at the International Urban Design Competition for the Design of
Sustainable Cities hosted by Japan at the World Gas Conference in
June 2003.
Kapil Gupta Studied architecture at the J J School of Architecture
and his Masters Program at the Architectural Association, London.
He started Contemporary Urban, a young design practice doing urban
design, architectural and interior design work in the year 2001.
Abha Narain Lambah is a trained conservation architect; she has
served on the Governing Council of various citizen’s groups
such as the Kala Ghoda Association, Horniman Circle Association
and Heritage Mile Association. A columnist on heritage issues for
the Indian Express and MARG Magazine she has also served as a Member
of the MHCC.

Charles Correa studied Architecture
at the University of Michigan and MIT. In private practice in Bombay
since 1958, his work covers a wide range, from the Mahatma Gandhi
Memorial at the Sabarmati Ashram, to the Jawahar Kala Kendra in
Jaipur, and the State Assembly for Madhya Pradesh – as well
as townships and public housing projects in Delhi housing projects
in Delhi, Bombay, Ahmedabad, Bangalore and other cities in India.
From 1970-75, he was Chief Architect for ‘New Bombay’
an urban growth centre of 2 million people. In 1985, The Late Prime
Minister Rajiv Gandhi appointed him Chairman of the National Commission
on Urbanism.
Cyrus Guzder is an urban activist playing an active role in the conservation of heritage buildings and precincts of Mumbai and numerous environmental issues. He is trustee of the Bombay Environmental Action Group (BEAG) and Governor of the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Heritage Society. He also serves as a trustee at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu (formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India).
Deepak Parekh is Chairman of HDFC,
India's premier housing finance institution. A chartered accountant
by profession, Mr. Parekh is on the board of several leading corporations
across diverse sectors, including Infrastructure Development Finance
Company (IDFC), Glaxo Smithkline Pharmaceuticals and Siemens India
Ltd. He also serves on various government appointed committees and
advisory panels. In addition to receiving the national "Padma Bhushan"
award in 2006, Mr. Parekh was awarded the "Best Non Executive Director
2006" by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance, "The Economic
Times Lifetime Achievement Award" in 2003, "JRD Corporate Leadership
Award" in 1997, and the "Businessman of the Year" by Business India
in 1996.
Nana
Chudasama is World Chairman of the India-based social service
organization, Giants International. As Sheriff of Mumbai in 1989,
he started the "I Love Mumbai" campaign with the slogan "Clean Mumbai,
Green Mumbai." He still serves as president of "I Love Mumbai."
He also is president of the Center for the Prevention of Drub Abuse
and AIDS, chairman of the National Kidney Foundation and Common
Man's Forum. Mr. Chudasama was conferred the title Padma
Shree by the President of India in 2005, for the contribution
towards the welfare of society as a committed social worker.
Team
Supriya Varadhan is the Director of Research and the Resource Centre. She is an architect and an environmentalist with a background in Sustainability Management. She has worked a consultant on Clean Development Mechanism projects, on a European Union project on city-networking for urban projects in Auroville. She has also worked in business sustainability at a management research institute in London.
Ian Nazareth is an architect from Rizvi College of Architecture, Mumbai. He is interested in urban planning and seeks solutions to issues plaguing the city of Mumbai. He is a part of the research team at UDRI on the Fort Management Plan for Architectural Control and the Transportation & Traffic Management component.
Isaac Mathewis an architect from
the Pillai’s college of Architecture. He is involved with
the organisation in an attempt to understand the planning and development
issues of the city that is Mumbai. He is involved in the core team
of UDRI’s flagship research projects. .
Rosaline Vaz is the office secretary at the Institute. She is a B.Com graduate from the Karnataka University and a qualified secretary with more than twenty years of work experience. She handles all secretarial and parts of general administration and accounts responsibilities at the UDRI office.
Sushama More is a trained librarian handling information resources at the Resource Centre. Her responsibilities include acquisition, classification, cataloging and development of structured access to the Research and Resource Centre database. Information resources include books, reports, films, photographs, magazines, journals, maps, CDs and collection of news clippings on Mumbai's development issues.
Rajkumar Vaid is the office assistant and an essential part of the day-to-day operations at the UDRI office.
