CONSERVATION SOLUTIONS

Through the documentation of individual historic structures or the mapping of entire neighbourhoods, UDRI has enabled the successful identification, conservation and management of the city's heritage.

RESEARCH STUDIES

Differentiated from our applied research projects, these initiatives are typically speculative and are intended to stimulate the city's design community. These investigations commissioned by UDRI often inform the analysis of other projects or even lead to a more sustainable pattern of use of existing city resources.

URBAN MANAGEMENT PROPOSALS

Management solutions that involve the citizens of an entire neighbourhood constitute an effective check against the rapid deterioration of civic infrastructure and the degeneration of the city's built fabric and public spaces. By aligning the concerns of the area residents and workers, UDRI has been able to integrate development and conservation in Mumbai's neighbourhoods while devolving planning and management responsibilities to the local community.

PLANNING INITIATIVES

After comprehensive evaluation UDRI has been able to propose modifications to the working of an entire part of the city. Our vision for a particular node or precinct is typically the product of a partnership between local institutions and UDRI. Active public participation and the involvement of local government is sought also to ensure the plan's viability.

RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

UDRI Research fellowships aim to provide young scholars, researchers and independent practitioners the opportunity to do research on contemporary urban issues and concerns of Mumbai. TUDRI hopes that the fellowships will enable young scholars and researchers to approach these issues from different perspectives and will contribute to the creation of new scholarships in the urban understanding
